FC United of Manchester cruised past BRNESC Women in a goal packed encounter at Broadhurst Park that sees them qualify for the first-round proper of the FA Women’s Cup.
A hat-trick from Kirsty Chambers as well as outstanding efforts from Corrie Mather and Ella Hartley were the picks of the bunch as FC United dominated play from start to finish.
Despite the scoreline, the visitors never gave up, kept showing determination and were rewarded with a second-half goal from Helen Brislew.
The difference in quality between the two sides was evident throughout with FC United opening the scoring through Chambers after just two minutes.
A second goal from the captain came minutes later, and the game was getting out of reach quickly with the third goal coming after just 10 minutes.
A fourth goal came from Abbey Hunt with Ellie Rigby grabbing a fifth, but it was goal of the month contender from Corrie Mather that made it 6-0 after just half an hour.
Mather picked up the ball on the right-hand side just outside the box close to the touchline, before shooting with a curling effort into the top left-hand corner.
BRNESC registered their first shot on target in the first half and even had a penalty shout with Ella Thwaites claiming to be pushed in the box, but the referee said no.
Despite this show of hope, FC continued their goal rout with Ella Hartley scoring a worldie of her own from 25 yards out.
Chambers then completed her hat-trick to ensure the Reds had the game wrapped up before the break.
It was much of the same in the second half, but as FC began to tire BRNESC were using this to their advantage, and on 54 minuites they scored a consolation with a good effort from Helen Brislew giving the visitors a reward for all their hard work.
FC wrapped up victory with a further four second-half goals from Chambers, Mather, Kate O’Gara and Rigby.
The win ends a recent three-game losing streak for the Reds who will hope to use the momentum to record victory when they return to league action next weekend.
The draw for the first-round proper of the cup has seen them paired with National League North side Brighouse Town.
