On the second matchday of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season, London City Lionesses welcomed West Ham United for a heated London derby.
The Hammers were looking to bounce back from their opening-day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and they made the perfect start when Kelly Gago opened the scoring in the 21st minute.
The forward broke through the London City defence before finishing off a well-worked move, with Seraina Piubel providing the assist. Viviane Asseyi then doubled West Ham’s advantage shortly after the break.
London City pulled a goal back through Danielle van de Donk, but despite enjoying plenty of possession, they were unable to find a way through the West Ham defence for a second time. The Hammers held on to secure a deserved victory and their first three points of the season.
We were fortunate enough to have Caitlin McKissock on hand to capture all of the action.
