The second gameweek of the 2026/27 WSL2 season saw Southampton play at home for the first time this campaign as they hosted Ipswich Town in a goalless draw at Silverlake Stadium.
Despite their consistent attacking intent, the home side were unable to find the breakthrough, with the Tractor Girls’ defence standing firm. Of the Saints’ 23 shots, nine were blocked, four were saved, and the remaining ten were off target.
Amy Goddard thought she had broken the deadlock for the home side, but her effort was ruled out after she was adjudged to have fouled Ipswich goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx. The decision allowed the Canadian to maintain her clean sheet through to half-time and, ultimately, the final whistle.
The visitors struggled to find the back of the net too, with two of their six shots on goal forcing saves from Southampton goalkeeper and Republic of Ireland international Grace Moloney.
Overall, it was a frustrating afternoon for the forwards of both sides. Despite their attacking efforts, neither team could find a way through, with the defensive resolve of their opponents proving too difficult to overcome.

Southampton extended their unbeaten run in the WSL2 to seven games and will look to continue that form away against Sunderland this weekend, as they face the league leaders at the Stadium of Light.
Similarly, Ipswich are now unbeaten in their last five league matches, although they are still searching for their first win of the season.
The Tractor Girls rescued a point against Nottingham Forest with a stoppage-time equaliser before being held to a goalless draw by the Saints. They will hope to finally secure their first victory when they travel to Leicester City in their next league fixture.
