The World Sevens made its debut in London this past weekend, drawing over 3,000 fans to Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium. Eight Women’s Super League sides took part in the inaugural tournament, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton.

The action got off to a blistering start, with an incredible 35 goals scored across the opening six matches. Chelsea, Man United, and Aston Villa were particularly prolific, setting the tone for a high-scoring competition.

Day two raised the intensity even further, delivering 41 goals from another six matches. Chelsea and Man United both maintained perfect records to finish top of their respective groups, while Everton and Villa secured their places in Saturday’s semi-finals.

Despite featuring fewer matches, day three provided just as much excitement for what was the first sold-out crowd in World Sevens history.

Chelsea produced a dominant display in the first semi-final, thrashing Aston Villa 8–2. In contrast, Man United’s clash with Everton was more closely contested, though United ultimately ran out 5–2 winners to set up a blockbuster final against Chelsea.

The final lived up to expectations, delivering a thrilling encounter that saw Chelsea crowned champions after a dramatic 6–5 victory.

Man United raced into a 4–1 lead within the opening 11 minutes, but Chelsea mounted a stunning comeback. Aggie Beever-Jones sealed the win with a goal in the final 30 seconds, also clinching the Golden Boot in the process.

71 were fortunate to have both Abiola Sholagbade and Michael Jolley in attendance, capturing the unforgettable weekend through their lenses.
