The newly crowned champions of the FA WNL Division One Southeast Fulham, triumphed 3-0 over a Luton side that never truly made their mark on the game. This win took their invincible streak of no losses in the league past the 2 year mark.
Luton gave Fulham a guard of honour before the game, and the Champions showed why they deserved it with two goals in the first six minutes of the game at Craven Cottage from Kayleigh Stead and Anna Gray.
This had the game looking like Fulham would romp to victory with a high scoreline, but Luton ended up sharpening up their defence, keeping the score at 2-0 at half-time.
Soon after the second half started, Ellie Olds got the goal that she quite frankly had deserved after being a bright spark for the Whites all day.
Later on, she nearly grabbed a 4th, but a fine save from Luton’s Leah Robinson stopped Olds’s from getting a brace.
When the final whistle resounded around Craven Cottage, the fans exploded into jubilation as they knew they could finally call their team champions.
Fulham have been promoted to Tier 3 of the FA Women’s National League with the league win which is the highest the club has been since 2014, the year of the club’s reformation.
When the final whistle, the party started, with fans jumping and waving shirts and scarves around.
After a few songs from the club DJ the invincible Whites remerged from the tunnel with brand new shirts with “CHAMPIONS 26” emblazoned on their backs.
The Fulham team all went to collect their medals handed out by Sue Hough MBE, and as they did they also passed the trophy that they were moments away from hoisting.
As each player passed the cup around they either gave it a longing look, clapped the adoring and dedicated fans or kissed it.
Fulham head coach Steve Jaye and Fulham captain Megalie Mendes collected the cup from Issy Martin, the FA Women’s Club Development Manager and Bailey Cannon another FA representative, Mendes lifted the trophy into the West London air and the celebrations began.
