The Nigel Eady County Ground played host to the opening-day fixture of the 2026/27 Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, as Swindon Town Women welcomed Plymouth Argyle Women. It proved to be the perfect way to begin the new season, with more goals than any other fixture in the division, comebacks from both sides and end-to-end action keeping the game alive until the final whistle.
The first half produced three goals, with Plymouth Argyle taking an early lead in the third minute when Shana Dolbel found the net. Swindon responded ten minutes later as Taylor Macdonald levelled the score with a direct free kick.
The hosts continued to create the better chances, but Plymouth regained the lead in the 28th minute when Ellie Bishop rose highest to head home from a Kiesha Walker free kick. Despite Swindon’s pressure and dominance in front of goal, a combination of excellent saves from Argyle goalkeeper Olivia Giles and clinical attacking play from the visitors ensured Plymouth went into the break ahead. HT: 1-2.
The second half continued at the same high intensity, with Swindon returning from the break determined to turn their pressure into goals. Their persistence paid off early on as captain Annie Colston restored parity, sending the home crowd into celebration.
The momentum remained firmly with the Robins, and an unfortunate error from Argyle goalkeeper Olivia Giles allowed Tori St Clair to put Swindon ahead for the first time in the match and give the hosts their first lead of the season.
Swindon continued to push forward in the closing stages and eventually added a fourth through Izzy Cook, who produced a stunning strike into the top-right corner of the Argyle goal to make it 4-2.
The scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, with the second half ultimately reflecting Swindon’s dominance. After trailing at half-time, the Robins produced an impressive comeback to secure all three points on the opening day. FT: 4-2.
