Photo Diary: OH Leuven 1-1 Anderlecht

OH Leuven vs Anderlecht, a battle for the Super League title. A win for Leuven would have crowned them champions today, with the match also taking place under the league’s “Football for All” campaign, symbolised by rainbow captain armbands and corner flags promoting inclusion and respect in football.

The game starts at a furious pace, with both sides matching each other in the opening 30 minutes. Then comes a huge turning point: Anderlecht defender Azzurra Gallo is shown a red card, leaving the visitors down to ten players. Despite the setback, Anderlecht dug deep and somehow held on to the 0–0 going into halftime.

OH Leuven comes flying out after the break, pushing forward with wave after wave of attacks. Twice, they think they’ve taken the lead, but both goals are ruled out for offside. Anderlecht survives the pressure and begins to sense an opportunity on the counter. On the 46th minute mark, Rimante Jonusaite finds the breakthrough and slots the ball into the net, 0–1 Anderlecht.

Leuven refuses to give up and throws everything forward in search of a response. Their persistence finally pays off in the 89th minute, when Kadhiya De Ceuster scores the equaliser to make it 1–1. The home side continues to fight for the winner and the title-clinching goal, but it is not to be.

The final whistle blows: 1–1. Anderlecht, despite playing with ten players for more than 60 minutes, managed to escape with a hard-fought point, while Leuven’s title celebrations are put on hold.
