Everton secured a dramatic win over Leicester City through a late goal by Philippines international Maz Pacheco. Her first goal for the club came in the 96th minute at the Gladys Street end, dampening the spirits of an already misery-filled season for the Foxes.
Leicester were just moments away from their first clean sheet since December before Pacheco latched onto a wayward shot from Katja Snoeijs to tap home and snatch a victory for the Toffees.
This result extends Leicester’s run of 11 league defeats and a third home win for Everton, who have found it difficult to get results in their first full season at Goodison Park.
Goalkeeper Katie Keane made her second start for Leicester at only 19 years old, making a superb save in the first half from a goal-bound Yuka Momiki’s free kick.
At the other end, Courtney Brosnan showed her acrobatic skills by reacting quickly to push Shannon O’Brien’s effort onto the post and eventually out for a Leicester corner.
Everton responded through a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box from Zara Kramzar that struck the woodwork.
After an evenly-matched first half, Everton were marginally the better team throughout a cagey second half at a rainy Goodison Park.
Both sides lacked the attacking quality to find an opener and break the deadlock. With both sides pushing for a winner, it was Everton who delivered through Pacheco’s injury-time winner, sending the home fans into chaos and ending their WSL campaign on a high.
