West Didsbury & Chorlton Women claimed local bragging rights after a commanding 3-0 victory over FC United of Manchester at Brookburn Road.
The opening 40 minutes proved to be a cagey, end-to-end affair with both sides carving out opportunities but missing the clinical edge to open the scoring. The deadlock was finally broken five minutes before the halftime whistle as Grace Soñes Devally found the back of the net, turning the tide and ensuring West went into the break with a vital 1-0 advantage.
FC United refused to sit back in the second half, coming out with renewed fighting spirit to chase an equaliser. During this tense period of pressure, West goalkeeper Meg Dickin stepped up and although she wasn’t heavily challenged throughout the afternoon, Dickin pulled off a couple of spectacular saves when it mattered most. Her sharpness preserved the thin lead and completely sustained West’s momentum.
Despite a few missed chances from the hosts to put the game to bed early, they asserted total control late in the half. Goals from Ellie Caddick and Lucy Lambert shattered any hopes of a United comeback as West Didsbury ended the 90 minutes with an emphatic three goals and a vital three points on the board.
