Sherborne Town eased into the third qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Weymouth at Raleigh Grove. The hosts currently sit second in the South West Regional League Premier Division, while Weymouth play in the Eastern Division of the same league.
Sacha Paynter put Sherborne ahead from the penalty spot just three minutes into the game, after Kelly Snook was brought down. Further goals from Snook and Orla East extended their lead, before Paynter wrapped up the victory with her second goal on the stroke of half-time. Weymouth will be pleased with their defensive efforts in the second half – preventing their higher league opponents from increasing the scoreline – but have now failed to find the net in three competitive games against their Dorset rivals.
Sherborne now face a trip to Bristol, where they will take on Downend Flyers for a place in the First Round Proper.
We were fortunate to have photographer Ian Middlebrook on hand to capture the action.
