London City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Brighton in the Women’s Super League.
Alexia Putellas opened the scoring in the 29th minute, reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the box before firing a superb half-volley into the corner without the ball touching the ground. It was the Spaniard’s first goal in English football and gave the hosts a deserved lead.
Brighton responded well and came close to finding an equaliser but were unable to find the back of the net. The second half was a tense affair, with both sides battling for control and looking for a way through.
London City finally put the game beyond doubt in the 92nd minute when Delphine Cascarino broke forward on the counter-attack before delivering a precise cross for Lucía Corrales, who calmly finished to make it 2-0.
The result sees London City return to winning ways, while Brighton were left to rue their missed opportunities.
