Birmingham City and Crystal Palace shared six goals and the points in a pulsating 3-3 draw, with Suzu Amano’s late intervention rescuing Birmingham from defeat.
The hosts needed just 40 seconds to take the lead, capitalising on a defensive error before Lee Geum-Min found Oceane Hurtre, who produced a brilliant finish into the top corner.
Palace hit back on the half-hour mark when Shanade Hopcroft’s free-kick caused confusion in the Birmingham defence, with goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley unable to prevent the ball from bouncing over her and into the net.
Birmingham immediately restored their advantage, with Hurtre again at the centre of the action. The French forward battled her way beyond Jamie-Lee Napier before finding the far corner from a difficult angle.
Palace refused to be knocked off course and levelled for a second time before the break. Sierra Enge’s effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Baggaley, but Bethany England was quickest to react, converting the rebound.
The visitors then completed the turnaround after Lexi Lloyd-Smith capitalised on another Birmingham mistake, cutting inside before calmly finishing to put Palace ahead for the first time.
With time running out, Birmingham needed something special — and found it.
A quick counter-attack opened up space inside the Palace penalty area, allowing Amano to sweep the ball home in the 87th minute and earn the Blues a share of the spoils.
It was an entertaining contest that neither side could quite wrestle control of, although the result means Birmingham remain without a league victory after four matches and sit third from bottom with two points. Palace occupy eighth place.
