Arsenal came away with a victory against Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Bristol City weren’t favourites at all going into this one, but I think they surprised everyone with their strong defence throughout the game and even snatched a goal early on.

Arsenal took the lead to make it 1-0 through Katie McCabe after just seven minutes and you thought, “here you go watch the floodgates open”, but Bristol City stood their ground. Nine minutes later Rachel Furness headed home from a cross to make it 1-1.

Into the second half and it was Arsenal who were looking a lot more dominant and looked to score the win and they did in the fifty-ninth minute Katie McCabe found some space on the edge of the box and the ball smashed the roof of the net which turned out to be the winner. The game finished 2-1 to Arsenal.

Surprisingly Arsenal have had a slow start to the season for their standards lying in seventh place after one loss, one draw and two wins with seven points. Bristol City need to find points from somewhere as they have lost all four games and have a minus ten goal difference sitting bottom of the table.

Despite the defeat, there was much to celebrate as Bristol City recorded their highest-ever attendance at Ashton Gate of 12,008.

We were fortunate enough to have Sophie Kirkman on hand to capture the action.
