After 3 first half goals and a late goal from Jenna Markham, Bridgwater United beat New Milton Town and bagged themselves a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
Jamie Harris made quite a few changes from the previous game against Oxford in the FAWNL Cup. Ellie Strippel was rested and named on the bench whilst Sydney Hinchcliffe and Shannon Greenway made their way into the starting lineup. Jenna Markham and Jasmine Read were back in the squad and both Wilson White and Kendell were named on the bench for the very first time.
Right from the beginning, United looked hungry to score goals and put in a good performance.
Just before the ten-minute mark, Bridgwater earned a corner. Wilson’s corner then found the head of Amy Goddard who fired it back into the net to give her team the lead.
Ten minutes later a corner was earned once again and who better to get on the end of it than Amy Goddard! Goddard once again was able to head the ball into the back of the net and double the lead.
Part way through the first half the away side were forced into a change as Chloe Gilroy was no longer able to continue. Jasmine Turner came on in replacement for Gilroy and put in a good shift throughout the match.
It was getting closer to half time and Bridgwater wanted more goals. Laura Holden managed to fire home and contributed to the deserved 3-0 lead at half time.
Coming out for the second half it looked as though Bridgwater united had secured their place in the next round. However New Milton Town were due their credit in the second half. At times throughout they did well to keep it just the three goals for the majority of the half.
After assisting in the first half, Wilson looked as though she was about to get on the scoresheet herself. She tried a shot from distance which unfortunately ended up over the crossbar.
Jasmine Turner made some good runs down the right wing and got herself in good positions to deliver crosses into the box. However, there were some questionable offside decisions given which denied her from doing so.
Wilson White and Markham were both brought on in the second half, Wilson White slotted in in defence and Markham took Hinchcliffe’s place up front and looked to be a threat for the home side.
Right before the final whistle Goddard sent a ball in over the top to substitute Jenna Markham who made no mistake placing the ball in the back of the net to send the Robins through to the second round!
