Match Report: MK Dons 1-5 Watford

Dons crash out of the FAWNL League Cup Quarter Finals after Watford score 5

After some impressive recent performances from the Dons. They went into the fixture high on confident with the belief of getting a result vs a very tough opponent in Watford.

But the Dons were dispatched by a very professional Watford side. A Helen Ward brace followed Bianca Baptiste’s powerful opener, plus goals from Ellie Head and Annie Rossiter completing an excellent display against their league rivals

Starting the game brightly the hosts managed to exert their dominance over the Dons with a well taking first goal from Baptiste, who cut in from the right-hand side and dispatched the shot in the far top corner well out of the reach of MK Dons captain and shot stopper Sansom. 1-0

Dons looked to regroup after this early set back, but the Watford press was relentless stifling any chances the Dons could create.

Watford made it 2-0 after another sweeping counterattack from the hornets as Ward scored her first for the game.

The Dons thought they had a chance to grab a goal back just before half time, But Amy McClean shot was saved well saved by Goldsmid as unbeknown to her the linesman raised the flag to signal offside.

The Dons managed to start the second half  brightly and they were able to create a few chances. That resulted in the reward for Dons winger Laura Mitchell. Mitchell won the ball after great work from the Dons midfield and with her left foot manged to curl the ball passed the Watford keeper after it took large deflection sending her the wrong way. 2-1 Game On…

Moments later Watford found themselves once again with a two-goal margin, following a swift counter attack Ward netted in for her second goal of the game. 3-1
