Yeovil United: Contenders To Win The FAWNL South?

Yeovil United have had quite a good start to their season so far! Two draws, two wins and one loss. This will be their second season the National League South. This season Jamie Sherwood and his team have brought in some new players and a few have returned from previous seasons. As well as this the club have brought some academy players up.

With the players and staff that have been brought in this season it really gives Yeovil the opportunity to get promoted and they are definitely strong contenders to win the league. Jamie has made it clear that they only have one target for this season and that is to become the best club in the South West again! Club captain Chloe Lloyd has also said: “We have targets that have to be met. We want to be a championship team. That’s simple!”

Due to COVID protocols it’s been different (for every team) especially pre-season but it gave the team the opportunity to work on things and put in a lot of graft ready for the 2020/21 season. The fact that the season was cut short and the squad weren’t able to be together during that time meant that coming back to training would have been different and it would have taken the for the new players to settle in and gel with the rest of girls.

Us Yeovil fans think very highly of Jamie Sherwood! He helped the club to get into the WSL and he’s been on a lot of the club’s journey. Having him return to Yeovil last season was one of the best things that could’ve happened for us as a club. Since he’s been back the players have seemed to settle well and fit into his playing style.

Quite a few players have come in this season to strengthen the squad. Ffion Llewellyn, Ellie Sargent, Anais Trinci and Kayley Lane are new to the team this season and Georgia Evans, Bow Jackson, Leah Burridge, Ebony Dover have all also returned to the club for this season! Looking at the squad Yeovil have this season there is definitely a lot of experience! Some of these players have played in the WSL and at teams in the Championship, etc and have

Players to look out for:

Beth Howard – In my opinion, Beth is probably the best goalkeeper in the league! She’s been with us on our journey. She’s made a big impact to our season and saved us a few times.

Kelly Aldridge – Kelly is an absolute beast on the pitch. She’s a very physical player and has a great ability to get around players and win challenges. Her physicality is great and Kelly isn’t one to shy out of challenges.

Chloe Lloyd – Newly appointed captain Chloe Lloyd is the key to our midfield! Her ability to pass the ball is exceptional and she is a set-piece specialist. She causes problems for other teams and has experience internationally for Wales and is definitely someone to look out for.

Annie Heatherson – Club legend Annie Heatherson is a threat to any opposition! She scored 3 goals in our first two games and will try efforts from far out. As well as this Annie is quite a physical player and is someone who will battle for the ball.

Ellie Strippel – Ellie is a fantastic player and gets stuck in. She can move the ball quickly and will make runs and get herself into a good position to shoot so when she is fully fit she will definitely be a player to keep an eye on.
