Hopefully our longer-term readers will remember our 2019/20 awards? I’m pleased to say that they will be coming back in June and this year there will be a new category, one which aims to celebrate and recognise the achievements of photographers within women’s football.
The role of a photographer can often be overlooked and under-appreciated. While we are all trying to grow the women’s game it’s so important to make players, clubs and matches more visible online, in the written press and via social media.
We’re to partnering with Goal Click for this award. Goal Click share stories of the beautiful game from all over the world. They find people connected to the game – players, fans, coaches, and more – to capture their own stories about their football lives and communities, all beginning with a disposable analogue camera.
The results, glorious in their imperfections, can be seen on goal-click.com and their social media channels, alongside the words of the storytellers.
For a long time now Goal Click has been telling the stories of women’s football, from Women’s World Cup stars to women and girls in some of the remotest parts of the world, so it’s a great pleasure to have them involved.
We have been accumulating submissions and I’ve been taken aback by the standard of the entries, many of them offering a diverse insight into the women’s game, from in the thick of the action to behind the scenes preparation.
We are asking that those interested get their submissions in soon as we are working towards a May 16th deadline. You can submit your entries via social media DM and email at contact@since-71.com.
They don’t have to be your photographs, you can submit on behalf of someone else. If you don’t know who the photographer is from a particular photograph then we’ll do our best to trace them but if we’re unsuccessful then I’m sorry to say but the photograph will not be able to be shortlisted.
Once a shortlist has been decided, our panel will then decide a winner. We shall be putting out a poll so that you can also have your say on the best image. While this is not a fully fan chosen award, your views are important will be taken into consideration.
