Southampton have today announced the signing of goalkeeper Beth Howard from Bridgwater United.

Some may recognise the name. Beth was a part of the Yeovil squad in the 2017/18 season when they played in the WSL.

The experienced keeper will offer a lot to the side who currently sit fourth in the Championship. Having played in high stake games whilst being in the WSL and last seasons FA Cup game against Man United, Howard won’t be shy of any opposition.

Not only does Howard’s experience within the game make her a great addition to the Saints squad, she also fits greatly into a leadership role. During part of last season Beth stepped up and captained the Bridgwater side until the end of the season.

It goes without saying that Southampton have some great facilities, something we hope to see a lot more of as the game grows. In her recent interview with Southampton Beth explains how the club changed her perspective since she was a young girl and whether or not she’d be able to be a professional footballer.

“Having it here and it’s literally Premier League standard is unbelievable and it changed my perspective and I was like I can actually have that opportunity as a woman and I just thought if seven-year-old Beth could see that I think she’d explode.”

Howard is a signing that Saints fans can certainly look forward to and a player whose hard work and dedication can be seen on the pitch.

Southampton’s first game of 2023 will be against Lewes at St Mary’s this Sunday.
