Wimborne Town caused a big upset in the Dorset Women’s Cup quarter-final, beating Weymouth 3-1 at The Bob Lucas Stadium. Wimborne now face a short trip to Poole Town in March for their semi-final, while Poole Town’s Reserve team will visit Sherborne Town in the other tie.
Wimborne, sitting mid-table in the Dorset Women’s League, fully deserved this victory over their hosts from the South West Regional League. Second half goals from Keely Smith, Megan Raison and Emily Trim put them in a commanding position before Sophie Bonfield scored a late consolation goal for Weymouth.
We were fortunate to have photographer Ian Middlebrook on hand to capture all of the action.
