London City Lionesses claimed an impressive 4–2 victory over Crystal Palace in an entertaining South London Derby in the Subway Players Cup at the CopperJax Community Stadium in Bromley.
Despite Palace creating several opportunities and looking dangerous during the opening stages, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock shortly before half-time. Isobel Goodwin rose highest to meet Poppy Pattinson’s cross, giving London City a 1–0 advantage heading into the interval.
Goodwin continued to cause problems after the restart, adding two further goals to complete a superb hat-trick and put the hosts firmly in control of the contest.
Crystal Palace refused to give up, with Annabel Blanchard finding the net to reduce the deficit. However, their hopes of mounting a comeback were quickly dented as substitute Freya Godfrey made an immediate impact, restoring London City’s three-goal advantage.
Both sides continued to show attacking intent in an entertaining evening of cup football, with Shannon O’Brien grabbing a late consolation for Palace in stoppage time.
However, it proved too little, too late for the visitors as London City held on to secure a deserved 4–2 victory.
It was a memorable night in Bromley for the Lionesses, who claimed the local bragging rights and continued their Subway Players Cup campaign with an impressive derby triumph.
