Fulham booked their place in the final of the Capital Women’s Cup after overcoming a spirited Tottenham Academy side in an entertaining semi-final.
The Whites made the perfect start, taking the lead just two minutes into the match through Kayleigh Stead. The forward is developing a habit of striking early, having also scored in the second minute of Fulham’s recent game against Luton. Her quick opener ensured Fulham went into the break with a 1–0 advantage.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically after half-time. Tottenham’s number 46, Ruby Gaitley, produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a stunning strike from outside the box to level the score at 1–1 and threaten to send the tie into extra time and possibly penalties.
Fulham would have the final say, though. Late in the game, Leila Lister delivered a dangerous cross into the box that found Stella Gandee-Morgan, who finished to seal the victory and send the Whites through to the final.
In the other semi-final, AFC Wimbledon edged past Brentford in a thrilling 4–3 win. The result sets up a Capital Women’s Cup final on Tuesday night between Fulham and AFC Wimbledon at the VBS Community Stadium.
