Third place Crystal Palace hosted top of WSL 2 Charlton Athletic at Selhurst Park, in what could be a key match in The Eagles quest for promotion. A crowd of 3,822 turned up in full voice, creating a bouncing atmosphere.
The first half saw goals from Thestrup and a late equaliser from Ladd, and it looked as if Palace were on top as we went into half time, so it was no surprise when Howat bagged a goal early into the second half, before Sophie Whitehouse’s incredible save at full stretch to keep Palace at bay a little longer. In the 76th minute Larkin widened the gap to 3-1.
Charlton Athletic won a penalty in the 80th minute which Bissell dispatched with ease, Bissell’s and we went into the final 10 minutes in an intense showdown as both sides fought for every ball, with crunching last minute tackles in the dying stages of the game by Ladd and Napier, and it would go on to see Crystal Palace hold Charlton Athletic to a 3-2 victory, reducing their gap in the table to 6 points, with a game in hand for Palace.
