Photo Diary: Charlton Athletic 0 – 6 Chelsea

Chelsea continued their impressive start to the Women’s Super League campaign with a commanding 6–0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

The hosts faced a difficult afternoon against the Blues’ high-intensity, free-flowing attack, with the opening goal arriving after just three minutes. Nathalie Björn rose highest to head home from a corner, setting the tone for a dominant opening spell from the visitors.

Ellie Carpenter continued her impressive goalscoring form this season, reacting quickest to a rebound after Charlton goalkeeper Koivunen produced a diving save to extend Chelsea’s advantage.

Melvine Malard also proved clinical in front of goal, scoring twice with both finishes coming from inside the six-yard box. The French forward looked on course for a first-half hat-trick, only for the offside flag to deny her a third.

Lauren James was another standout performer, showcasing her agility and technical ability as she drifted across the frontline, creating opportunities from both wings. However, Chelsea’s impressive first-half display was slightly overshadowed by an injury to the England international, which brought her afternoon to an early end.

Following Chelsea’s fourth goal, Charlton’s players gathered together on the pitch in an attempt to regroup, discuss defensive adjustments and find a way to build some momentum.

The hosts emerged with greater determination after the interval, producing a handful of half-chances that lifted the crowd and gave their supporters something to cheer. Despite the improved second-half showing, Charlton struggled to find the cutting edge needed to seriously test Chelsea’s defence.

The Blues’ squad depth was evident following a series of second-half substitutions, with both Aggie Beever-Jones and Giulia Dragoni getting on the scoresheet. For Dragoni, it was a particularly memorable moment as she opened her Chelsea account, completing an emphatic 6–0 victory for the visitors.
