The South West Regional League season got underway on Sunday, with newcomers Bath City hosting Weymouth at Twerton Park in their opening Eastern Division fixture. In weather conditions better suited to sunbathing than playing football, they played out a very entertaining game – the lead changing three times before Bath rescued a 3-3 draw in dramatic fashion.
Weymouth first took the lead through Ellia Webb on 14 minutes but found themselves behind by half-time, after goals from Libby Goater and Emilia Belotti turned the game in Bath’s favour. Weymouth responded well after the break and goals from Zara Hunt and Charlie Wilson put them back in front. But deep into injury time Bath were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, and Belotti stepped up to hit an unstoppable effort over the wall and into the top corner.
We were fortunate to have photographer Ian Middlebrook on hand to capture the action.
