Arsenal Women ended their final home game of the season with a dramatic late win over Everton at Emirates Stadium, as Stina Blackstenius scored deep into stoppage time to finally break down a stubborn Everton side. Arsenal controlled much of the match and created several chances throughout the evening, with Beth Mead and Olivia Smith both striking the crossbar before the late breakthrough eventually arrived in front of a relieved home crowd.
Everton defended strongly for long periods and looked set to leave North London with a point after frustrating Arsenal across the 90 minutes. Courtney Brosnan produced a number of important saves, while Everton’s back line continued to hold firm despite sustained pressure from the hosts.
The evening also carried added emotion after full-time, with Arsenal holding a ceremony for departing players following the club’s final home fixture of the campaign. Beth Mead, Victoria Pelova, Laia Codina, Manuela Zinsberger and Naomi Williams were all recognised on the pitch as supporters stayed behind to applaud their contributions to the club.
