MK Dons Women’s winning streak of three games drew to an end following a 4-1 defeat against Oxford United, who now place top of the league.

Charlie Bill’s Women returned to the road after a successful Sunday at Stadium MK, where they claimed a 3-1 victory in front of a record attendance. This victory cemented their sixth-place position within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division league table.

Three changes were made following the recent starting line-up that claimed three points over Crawley Wasps. Angelina Nixon due to an injury made way for Georgie Giddings, Tilly Brown switched with Emily Wilson and Kerry Newman started ahead of Hannah Samuels.

The opening stages of the fixture ultimately set the tone for the remainder of the game. An early goal stopped the Dons early momentum as Carly Johns made it 1-0

Seventeen minutes later, the home side doubled their lead thanks to Johns’ second goal of the evening. 2-0

Oxford United held a comfortable two-goal advantage as the first half drew to a close.

The second half started as the first ended with Oxford in control. The second stage of the match saw Oxford increase their lead. Jones hard work was able to play in Taome Oliver and fired the ball passed Samson in goal 3-0.

Jones popped up with her second assist of the night as in the 61st minute found Tash Stephens at the back post, who calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net 4-0.

Five minutes prior to the final whistle, MK Dons were then dealt with another blow, captain Chloe Sansom had to be taken off the field after she had suffered an injury. Gemma Biggadike had to step in between the sticks for the remainder of the game.

Even with the game up as a contest, the Dons still managed to fight until the end which awarded them with a consolation goal through Mollie Coupar as she scored her 22nd goal of the season.
