Match Report: MK Dons 3-0 Reading U23 Development Squad

MK Dons Women book their place in the Berks & Bucks Woman’s Senior Cup Final after an impressive 3-0 over Reading U23 Development Squad.

The Dons stated brightly after last week’s disappointment and chances started appear for the host early on.

Mollie Coupar looked to continue her goal scoring form that has seen her score 15 goals in the last 15 games, and on 8 minutes once again Mollie Couper found the back of the net after a great cross from Kerry Newman. Kerry beat her defender and whipped in a pinpoint cross for Coupar to volley home.  1-0 Dons

After the first goal went in Reading started to get back into the game, and at stages it looked very even as both midfields battled out for dominance.

But after 30 minutes Dons managed to take the upper hand as Dons winger Angelina Nixon manged to break down the left and using her skills was able to wrong foot the Reading defence and curl the ball into the far corner leaving the Reading Goalkeeper no chance. 2-0 Dons

Dons continued the forward press once again as the could sense the opportunity to wrap up the game. Mollie Couper and Nicole Pepper and Laura Mitchell press was causing lots of issues and you could see that the Reading defence was struggling with the constant pressure and eventually that pressure told, and the Dons managed to make 3-0 – Laura Mitchell presence caused the reading defence to panic and resulting in Reading conceding and Own Goal.

After the break the game dropped off in quality for both teams. Both teams struggled to make any clear-cut chances.  Chloe Sansom was hardly tested by the Reading forwards throughout the whole game as they didn’t have a shot on target during the whole 90mins.  Dons did a few chances to score, most notably Kerry Newman rounded the Reading goalkeeper but hit the side netting.

With the 3-0 lead the Dons managed to see out the second half and celebrations erupted in the crowd as the referee blow the final whistle.

The Dons now take on Abingdon United in the final after they knocked out Maidenhead United in a penalty shootout.
