Match Report: MK Dons 0-2 Gillingham

Laura Mitchell vs Gillingham – Fairfield’s Sports Hub MK 12-2-23

Charlie Bill’s Women were dealt their first league defeat within the past two months following a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Gills.

A fixture that the home side will look to improve on as their own missed chances prevented them from troubling the opposition. Especially now as the Dons play three games over the space of seven days. Starting with a trip to Watford.

Within the first 20 minutes of the match, Gillingham took the lead via Breon Grant excellent long range effort. The Dons responded to their set-back, however, a stubborn Gills defence prevented Charlie Bill’s side from levelling the game once more. 0-1

A promising display in the closing stages of the first 45 minutes looked to inspire MK Dons, who had an opportunity to claw their way back into the points within the second stage of the clash.

Alas, the Dons’ efforts were snubbed as they were met by a fortress of bodies in every advance that they made to penetrate the goalmouth. This frustration was only then furthered once the home side conceded a second.

Gillingham had taken the few opportunities they crafted. Grant took her opportunity and slotted the ball into an open net. 0-2

A number of substitutions were made during the second half in an attempt to positively impact the game. Although, the desired effect didn’t occur, and the Dons were handed their first league defeat of 2023.
