The last fourteen days have been a massive test for MK Dons, and their trip to London Bees was the fourth away match in a row, with other trips to Watford, Cheltenham and Gillingham. A top five finish could be on the cards for the Dons!
Against London Bees, Zoe Barratt marked her third start back as a Don by scoring her first goal back for the club, as well as Angelina Nixon scored her 10th goal this season and the Dons winner. The travelling Dons fans went away from Barnet happy with all 3 points and sitting 6th in the league with 2 games in hand.
The game itself started evenly, both sides looked to make early inroads but both midfields were coming out on top. The Bees managed to get the upper hand in the first half as they created a few early chances. But failed really to test Chloe Sansom.
The Dons managed to take advantage of the Bees lacklustre attempts, thanks in part to Tricia Gould’s lofted through ball that put Zoe Barratt in. She still had a lot to do as the Bee’s defender tried to close her down, but Zoe rifled a right foot shot that passed the Bees keeper 1-0
After the sucker punch of conceding so close to halftime, the Bees once again came out fighting as they looked to get an early equaliser. Again, they had some early chances, but none of the efforts had Sansom worried.
With the clock at 69 minutes up popped Angelina Nixon scoring the goal of the game.
From a quick counter-attack, Gould picked up the ball on the left-hand side and drove forward into the attacking half where she found Nixon unmarked in a central position. Nixon carried on her run and unleashed a stunning strike from 35 yards out right into the top corner of the goal, leaving the Bees keeper gasping for air. What then started the mass celebrations on the touchline and of course Nixon as she celebrated her 10th goal of the season and arguably a contender for goal of the week, maybe even the goal of the season. 2-0
