Goals from Carla Humphrey, Ebony Salmon and Abi Harrison saw Bristol City Women take three points in their first FA Continental Cup game against Championship side London Bees.
Lee Burch (London Bees manager) made a few changes to his starting 11 with goalkeeper Megan Lynch making her debut for the Bees and a few players returning from injury.
Bristol started well in the early stages of the game. On the 8th minute New Zealand international Olivia Chance found Carla Humphrey in the box and she made no mistake slotting the ball into the bottom left corner giving Bristol an early lead.
On the 25th minute Ebony Salmon doubles City’s lead after she got the mall past Bees captain Megan Alexander and she then made no problem finding the back of the net.
In the second half London Bees looked like the better side and had a lot of chances but they weren’t enough to get the Bees back in the game.
London Bees first chance came when Bristol City lost possession but they managed to clear before a shot could be made.
Two minutes into the second half Abi Harrison managed to get Bristol City a third when Ebony Salmon’s cross found the feet of Harrison and she put the ball past Lynch to wrap up the victory for Bristol.
After the game I spoke to London Bees manager Lee Burch: “ I thought we were the better team in the second half. In the first half we started slow and I think we gave them too much respect. Some of the girls were a bit worried about playing a WSL side. “
Bristol face Chelsea at home on the 29th of September in the WSL whilst London Bees will take on Lewes in the Championship.
