Ella Toone Extends Manchester United Deal

Ella Toone has signed a new contract at Manchester United until 2022 with an option to extend for a further year.

The England Under-21 international midfielder joined United when the women’s team was formed in July 2018, and has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 22 goals.

Speaking to the club website on her new contract Toone said “I’m thrilled to have signed a new deal. I think of the club as family and I’m so happy to be continuing my development here”.

” I want to thank the players and staff for the environment we have created at United; I wouldn’t want to be playing my football anywhere else.

“I’m just looking forward to getting started next season – we’ve been working really hard during these uncertain times and I know we’ll be back stronger.”

She is regarded as one of the finest players young players in England and was nominated alongside four others for the FA Women’s Young player of the year award in May 2018, an award eventually won by Arsenal’s Beth Mead.

Whilst playing for the Red Devils Toone enrolled onto a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport Science course at Wigan and Leigh college.

Manchester United boss Casey Stoney added “Ella is a fantastic character to have in our squad; she brings great enthusiasm and competitiveness to everything she does”

“She is an intelligent and skilful player who I’ve seen develop a lot over the last couple of years, so I’m really happy she has committed her future to the club”.

“As one of the younger players in the squad I have no doubt she will push herself further and continue to develop throughout her time with us”

She started her career at Astley & Tyldesley Football club before making the move to Manchester United’s youth academy before she then went on to play for both Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City before she made the move back to United in 2018.

Toone follows Jess Sigsworth, Kirsty Hanson and Amy Turner in extending her contract at Manchester United.
