Wythenshawe Town Football Club has submitted an application for Manchester Laces Yellows to become Wythenshawe Town, marking an exciting new chapter for women’s football in the area.
The move is the latest step in a growing partnership between Manchester Laces and Wythenshawe Town, with both clubs sharing a vision of expanding opportunities for women and girls, both on and off the pitch.
Building for the Future
Speaking to Denise Southworth on WFM Radio, Wythenshawe Town chairman Chris Eaton outlined the ambitions behind the partnership and the plans already in place for the future.
Eaton revealed that the collaboration is focused not only on the senior women’s side but also on creating opportunities for young female footballers across the community.
“We’ll be bringing junior girls’ clubs in, which will be known as Wythenshawe Town Girls,” he said.
The move will create a clear pathway for players, allowing young girls to progress through the age groups and eventually into the senior women’s team under a single club identity.

Chris Eaton spoke warmly about the relationship that has developed between Manchester Laces and Wythenshawe Town, describing the partnership as a natural fit for both organisations.
“It’s a good marriage – it’s like we’ve tied the knot,” Eaton said.
He added: “It’s been a really good partnership.”
The partnership combines Manchester Laces’ experience and community focus with Wythenshawe Town’s ambition and infrastructure, creating a stronger platform for the continued growth of women’s football.
Success on the Pitch
While plans continue to develop behind the scenes, there is already plenty to celebrate on the pitch.
Eaton highlighted the achievements of one of the club’s girls’ teams, who recently competed in a cup final against Abberton at Ericstan Park.
The occasion was another significant milestone for the girls’ section and showcased the progress being made as the club continues to build opportunities for young female players in the community.
