During the Women’s World Cup this year, Norway will be looking to add another title to their name. In 1995 Norway won the World Cup in Sweden after beating Germany 2-0 in the final which saw them lift the trophy. They then won gold at the Olympics in 2000 after beating the United States.
One of Norway’s key players heading to France will be captain Maren Mjelde. The 29-year-old was vice-captain during 2011 and 2012 through Norway’s qualification campaign for the UEFA Women’s Euros 2013 where she captained most of the teams matches. The Chelsea player has captained the side since then.
Norway are in Group A alongside hosts France, Nigeria and South Africa. The Swedish coach, Martin Sjögren, has chosen a strong side for the tournament with players such as Maria Thorisdottir and Isabell Herlovsen (who will play a big part) making the team.
A player to look out for in particular will be 24-year-old Caroline Graham Hansen. The Barcelona player can score lots of goals and will play a big part in this year’s World Cup.
