Preview: England vs Cameroon

Ellen White celebrates scoring for the Lionesses.

England’s knockout last sixteen match kicks off against a Cameroon team who come into this game after securing their third place in their group. I’m expecting this to be a formality for England as they should comfortably beat Cameroon.

With Philip Neville, resting some key players in England’s last game. The girls will be eager to get back onto the pitch. They should be fresh having a few days break from playing.

The key player in this match for England will be Ellen White, who is starting to make an impact on this England team and world cup. Having scored three goals in her last two games, the partnership with Nikita Parris is paying off. And I’m sure that she will start again instead of Toni Duggan, who is still trying to find her form coming back from injury.

Cameroon’s form, so far in this world cup has been mixed. Having lost their first two games, and then narrowly beaten New Zealand to reach the last 16. They are a physical, counter-attacking side. Their strength will be from the wings, where they knock long balls too. And its just the final ball in that many let them down.

Key Player for Cameroon is Ajara Nchout who is an experienced attacking midfielder Having played at a top level in the US. I believe she will be the only threat to England. And if she can get onto the ball may cause problems.
I believe that England will set up as a 4-4-3. England however must not be complacent and underestimate Cameroon. They will go for a more attacking 4-3-3 system again. Overall, England will just be too strong for them and I predict a 2-0 scoreline.
