Charlton Athletic inflicted Saints’ second league defeat in over four years as they opened their Championship season at St Mary’s Stadium.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first half through Emily Simpkins, she scored in the twenty second minute after being fouled by former Addick, Megan Wynne.
Despite the positives, Saints found themselves further behind when Mel Johnson scored her first goal for the club in the fifty-second minute.
Angela Addison has the chance to seal the three points and make it three from the penalty spot but Kayla Rendell guessed right and saved to her left.
