To start off the 2025/26 Italian Women’s Serie A, Genoa Women hosted Inter Women on Friday, the 22nd of August. This was the first of three matches that these teams will have to play in the following weeks in the brand new Serie A Women’s Cup.

Kick off was at 6:30 pm, and Genoa inaugurated their new home, “La Sciorba Stadium” in which they will now be playing every home game.

From the first whistle, Inter dominated and had more possession of the ball, but Genoa fought through and defended brilliantly, until Inter’s number 33 Elisa Bartoli found an opener from a corner kick in the 25th minute.

It didn’t take long for the visiting team to find the back of the net again, thanks to number 7 Haley Bugeja, and yet again from another corner kick.

At half time Inter were sitting with a comfortable lead, but Genoa were not going to give up.

The home side had more possession and after a couple of substitutions, they also managed to get on the score sheet with a goal from number 44 Chiara Mele in the 88th minute.

With the match ending 1-2 Inter took the 3 points, but Genoa can also take with them a lot of positives and be very proud of their performance as going up against the number two team in the league as the newly promoted side can be a difficult task!
