Dons in seven heaven as they overcome Selsey Women in the FAWNL League Cup Determining round.
With Charlie Bill and Assistant Manager Mark Dass unavailable, Ethan Wallbank and Laura Bright stepped in and oversaw a clinical and professional display as the Dons found the goals on Sunday.
Goals from debut signing Lilly Dolling, as well goals from Cat Bevers, Meg Attenborough, Amy Mclean, Rhianne Rush and Sofia Stovold.
Plus, Dons leading goal scorer from last year Mollie Coupar opened her account from the spot.
Within only 5 minutes into the game the Dons were awarded a penalty kick, Coupar stepped up and passed the ball in the back of the net with the Selsey keeper left stranded after going the wrong way. 1-0
Dons looked to capitalise on their early dominance and were rewarded from a well-worked corner, as Cat Beaver found the back of the net. The Dons defender was found at the back post and with her body was able to cushion the ball into the back net 2-0
Chances continued to happen for the Dons, Rush had an effort that she blazed over the crossbar, as well as Dolling had a few early shots that were well saved by the Selsey Keeper. But Dolling kept going and was rewarded for her persistence. The Dons new signing found the back of the net as she coolly slotted the ball under the outrushing keeper 3-0
Megan Attenborough scored the goal of the half as she took fire from 20 yards out. The ball sailed into the top left corner leaving the Selsey keeper grasping for air. 4-0 – Half Time
As the second half started the Dons intensity was still evident moving the ball around quickly trying to break out a stubborn and organised Selsey defence. But as their player started to drop, Dons were able to find pockets of space. Rush was able to benefit from this as the midfielder found herself free from any defenders and took on a shot from inside of the area. The Selsey keeper would be disappointed as she got fingertips to the ball but was unable to stop the ball from going it the back of the net 5-0
Amy Mclean who scored last time vs Selsey once again found the back of the Net. The Dons attacker drove into the box and fired off a shot that cannoned off the underside of the bar and bounced into the back of the net6-0
The Dons kept on going and were rewarded with a 7th goal as Sofia Stovold found the back of the net from a Mollie Coupar corner. Coupar whipped in an in-swinging corner from the left-hand side and as the ball was spilt by the Selsey Keeper, Stovold was the quickest to react as the ball dropped to her at the back post, and with an outstretched leg stabbed the ball home. It marked a great day for the Dons defenders with two goals on the score sheet and the season first clean sheet. 7-0 Full Time
