Dons run of defeats comes to an end as they gain a point vs Billericay Town.
After a tough few weeks, the Dons managed to stop the rot and pick up a point vs Billericay. But will be left frustrated, as they missed out on all 3 points. With the opposition down to 10 for over 40 minutes. Bills side was unable to find the winner.
Starting the game slowly, It looked like the Dons still had a hangover from last weekend result, and the Dons found themselves behind to an early goal. Poor defending and a lack of communication lead to Billericay opening the lead as Ruby Sealey’s shot was deflected into the back of the net by Nicola Puddick as the Dons defender tried to clear if off the line. 0-1
The Dons thought they were back into the game as Adekite Fatuga – Dada rifiled a shot at goal that hit the cross bar, followed up by a long-range effort from Megan Attenborough, what fired through the hands of Smith in goal, But the keeper was able to recover and stop the ball from crossing the line under the pressure from Mitchell 0-1
The Dons pushed and pushed and on the stroke of Half Time the Dons were awarded a corner. In the ensuing mealy of bodies Laura Mitchell was the quickest to react and stabbed the ball home
1-1 Half Time
With just 5 minutes into the second half the match changed, Mollie Coupar was fouled and in a moment of madness Billericay striker Maddie Biggs was shown a straight red for violent conduct, apparently this was due to the striker made contact with Mollie’s face.
After the sending off the Dons started to gain more composure, but yet they were unable to show any major cutting edge in terms of chances. Towards the end of the game the Dons thought they had found a winner. Once again the Dons looked dangerous from a corner routine, Sofia Stovold managed to power a header towards goal, but the ball was brilliantly saved by the outstretched foot of the keeper. As the ball bounced up and hit the bar. Mitchell was there to pounce but was denied as the Billericay defender headed it off the line.
