Four goals from Chelsea saw them ease past Manchester City at the Academy Stadium and move even closer to league leaders Arsenal.
Emma Hayes’ side headed into this one unbeaten in their last 10 in all competitions, while City won last time out at Leicester and after their poor start to the season hoped to turn things around.
Chelsea opened the scoring early on, with Jessie Fleming capitalising on a poor mistake made by Karima Taieb.
Despite falling behind, City still gave it their all to find an equaliser but the visitors were proving resilient defensively.
Just before the break Chelsea doubled their lead with Sam Kerr tapping in from inside the six yard box.
The second half was much of the same, with both Fran Kirby and Magdalena Eriksson putting the Blues out of reach.
It was a nightmare start for City, an error from goalkeeper Karima Taieb saw the ball fall straight to Chelsea midfielder Jesse Fleming who rounded Taieb and made it 1-0.
City remained spirited and had the best chances for the remainder of the first half, but were unable to score.
They were made to rue the missed opportunities, with Chelsea making sure to convert one of their few chances just before half time.
A superb counter attack saw the ball crossed into the back post, Guro Reiten headed it towards Sam Kerr who tapped in from just a few yards out.
There was hardly a response from the hosts in the second half, with Chelsea pilling on the pressure and grabbing a third after Frank Kirby brilliantly lobbed the ball into the far corner.
The Citizens were down and out and looking poor defensively, a fourth was later added with captain Magdalena Eriksson rising high to head a cross home after 52 minuites.
Credit to the home side who after conceding four still tried to push for a consolation.
The defeat adds pressure to City manager Gareth Taylor and massively dents his sides hopes of challenging for the title this season.
