Once again football finds itself back at Stadium MK, as high-flying Ipswich Town make the 200-mile round trip to Milton Keynes.
Currently, Ipswich have won their last 6 games in a row and have only conceded once during this run, seeing them move up to 3rd in the league with 19 games played.
Ipswich will be looking to take all 3 points as they are still in the hunt to win the league alongside Watford and Oxford United respectively. So, this game could make or break Ipswich’s season, and the pressure will be on Joe Sheehan’s side to get a result.
The game itself will be no easy task for the Dons. The last time the two sides meet Ipswich took all 3 points down in Felixstowe. Bonnie Horwood showed that age is mealy just a number as the Ipswich Captain put in an impressive midfield display with 2 goals. As well as goals from Natasha Thomas, Freya Godfrey and Abbie Lafayette rounded off the scoring in a comprehensive 5-1 victory for the tractor girls.
As for the Dons, they will be hoping that they put in a better performance vs one of the league’s top sides. After the heavy defeat from Watford a few weeks ago, the Dons will be looking to show their fans that they can compete vs the bigger sides within the league.
Currently, they find themselves in the middle ground of being better than other sides below them but have struggled against the top sides in the league. Failing to register a single point vs the top 4 sides all season. Conceding 20 and only scoring 3.
As expectations from fans grow, as well as manager Charlie Bill’s expectations grow, he will hope that his side can look to challenge for the league title in future seasons to come. But getting results vs the bigger sides will be the next step in the teams’ development moving forward, and getting a result this weekend vs Ipswich side could be a massive boost for his team going into the last few games of the season.
Dons’ top scorer Mollie Coupar will also be looking to get a goal vs Ipswich. Mollie has failed to score against Ipswich this season. What is a staggering stat to think, as she has scored 26 goals in all competitions and is joint top goal scorer for the league with 19.
Zoe Barratt (MK Dons Women) “I’m looking forward to the game in the same way I look forward to any other game, nothing really changes for me. I’ll work hard in training through the week, prepare in the right way and try to perform to the best of my ability on Sunday. I know first-hand that Ipswich are a very good side, but it will be another good test for the team and we will look to put in another good performance”
Charlie Bill (Manager MK Dons Women) “We can’t wait for another test against one of the top sides in this league. These are the challenges you always look forward to because it allows us to see how close we are to those top sides. Unfortunately, the last couple of occasions we have played nowhere near to the levels we have played for large parts of the season, so it will be a good fixture for us to make amends. It’s been such a positive season both on & off the pitch, so it’s vital we maintain the values & standards shown previously as we have three sides left we are facing who all have promotion & relegation to fight for”
