Tomorrow night, London City Lionesses welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to The Copperjax Community Stadium for a 5 pm kick-off in matchweek four of the 2026/27 Women’s Super League season.
The Lionesses will be looking to make it three league victories from their opening four matches, while last season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup finalists Brighton are still searching for their first WSL win of the campaign.
Both sides were in Subway Women’s League Cup action in midweek, with Eder Maestre’s London City securing a 2-0 away victory over Leicester City at Meadow Lane.
Brighton also picked up their first competitive win of the season, producing a convincing 4-0 victory over newly promoted Charlton Athletic at The Broadfield Stadium.
London City began their WSL campaign with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat away to West Ham United. They bounced back last weekend, however, putting four past Charlton Athletic in a 4-1 victory at The Valley.
Brighton are still searching for their first league victory, having lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal on the opening day before drawing 2-2 away to Birmingham City. The Seagulls then shared the points again last Sunday, drawing 1-1 at home to Aston Villa.
London City Lionesses
Managed by Eder Maestre, London City currently sit fourth in the WSL with six points from their opening three matches.
The Lionesses enjoyed a strong debut season in the top flight last campaign, finishing sixth with 27 points. However, with increased backing from Michele Kang, the club has raised their ambitions heading into the new season and will be looking to climb further up the table while competing strongly across the league and FA Cup.
London City also enjoyed one of the most eye-catching transfer windows in women’s football this summer, attracting some of the biggest names in the game.
Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, former England goalkeeper Mary Earps and experienced Barcelona and Spain defender Mapi León were among the high-profile arrivals, adding significant experience and quality to Maestre’s squad.
Managed by Arturo Ruiz, Brighton currently sit 10th in the WSL after collecting two points from their opening three matches of the campaign.
Ruiz was appointed just under a month ago following Dario Vidošić’s departure, with the former Brighton boss leaving East Sussex to take charge of NWSL side Angel City FC.
Despite Vidošić’s unexpected exit, Brighton moved quickly to appoint Ruiz, who arrives with an impressive pedigree despite being just 29. The Spaniard has previously enjoyed successful spells in charge of both Granada CF and Atlético Madrid in Liga F.
Brighton also had to regroup following a difficult end to last season, when they suffered defeat in the club’s first-ever major final. The Seagulls reached the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium but ultimately fell short against Manchester City, who were crowned WSL champions in 2025/26.
Albion have nevertheless strengthened their squad this summer, with experienced additions including Gabby George, who joined from Manchester United, and former Arsenal midfielder Lia Wälti, who arrived from Juventus.
