Lucy Bronze Is Finally Announced As Man City Signing

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of English fullback Lucy Bronze on a two-year contract.

Bronze joins the City ranks fresh from her Champions League victory with French Champions, Olympique Lyonnais.

Right back, Bronze, 28, re-joins the Manchester Blues after a three-year stint with Lyon, in which time she won herself an impressive amount of silverware. Bronze has thrice won the French league, as well as the Women’s French Cup in 2019. Bronze has also won threeconsecutive Champions League titles, making her theonly English player (male or female) in history to achieve this incredible feat.

Her performances over the past three years have also seen her named as UEFA’s Women’s Player of the Year in 2019, and earned her the runners-up position at the Ballon d’Or Awards of the same year.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s finest right backs, Bronze’s arrival at City is duly welcomed. Bronze will almost certainly fill her natural fullback role, releasing forward players Janine Beckie and Georgia Stanway, who largely covered the position last season due to an ACL injury to defender Aoife Mannion.

Defender and newly called up Lioness, Esme Morgan, has also returned after a loan at Everton. Bronze and Morgan join steadfast centre-backs Steph Houghton and Gemma Bonner, as well as left-backs Demi Stokes and Megan Campbell to now give City a growing depth at the back.

Bronze is Manchester City’s fourth signing, behind USWNT midfielders Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle, as well as zippy forward Chloe Kelly.
