Interview: Boldmere St Michael’s Rhiannon Travers

Rhiannon Travers joined up with Birmingham West Midlands who have just been renamed to Boldmere St Michaels in the pre-season and became one of the key players through the season for them making 17 appearances and scoring on the final day of the null and void season. The young, centre back is firey on the pitch but the total opposite off the pitch. It’s been truly a pleasure to meet her throughout this season and below she agreed to talk about herself a bit, so you can get to know a bit more about her and her team before the new season begins.

I’d just like to thank Rhiannon for her time and hopefully a few more people will attend a Boldmere Women’s match next season as you won’t regret it.

To start with could you tell us about yourself?
I’m Rhiannon, I’ve been playing football since I was 10 years old. I play Centre Back for Boldmere Women and I support Aston Villa.

How would you describe yourself as a player in three words?
Passionate, Positive and Encouraging.

With the change of name being announced how excited are you to get underway in the new and upcoming Midlands League One season?
Extremely excited, think it will be a great opportunity for the club to finally have an official Women’s team in Boldmere Women. To also get the team to the highest possible division. It’s a great pathway for the girls also, as hopefully we can get a girls team at every age group soon!

With the season gone now being seeing as Null and Void by the record books you will be remaking your debut?
Officially I suppose so, But just focused to get back to playing with the team and getting Boldmere Women promoted!

How have you been keeping yourself busy during the lockdown? Have you managed to keep busy?
When I haven’t been at work, I’ve been setting myself targets to do e.g trying to keep my fitness levels up by going out for a run every day, playing football when I can and spending time with my family!

As a newly formed team you seemed to hit the ground running while sitting in second position behind leaders Wolves, what was the key to the team’s success?
100% teamwork, we worked hard during preseason and continued to push on throughout the season, working hard as a team on and off the pitch!

For people that have never seen Boldmere Women play before what can they expect?
A passionate, hardworking team who will also be of the friendliest team’s you’d ever meet. But also very focused when need to be!

Who is your manager and coaches and what are they like on the sidelines?
Marcus is our manager, along with Greeny, Gary, Brad, Joel, Chris, Mark, Alex and Ashon and all of them are hugely supportive on and off the pitch to the team!

What are your aims and targets for the new and upcoming season?
The main target is getting promoted and winning the league! Personal targets would be improving my own game, such as getting fitter, stronger and faster…

How many goals do you aim to score this season?
I mean as much as I’d like to score 10 realistically I’d like to score 3 goals!
