Both sides were assured of a semi-final place but it was Perry Northeast‘s Team GB who maintained their 100% record and as they progress as group winners, potentially the more favourable tie against Brazil.

An overhead from Portsmouth’s Katie James was headed in by Nadine Bazan from close range to give Team GB the lead.

Sarah Kempson continued her rich goalscoring form to make it 2-0 while less than a minute later Gemma Hillier killed the game as a contest with a third goal.

Anna Petrova was able to pull one back for Mikhail Likhachev’s Russia. However, any slim hopes they had of pulling off a miraculous comeback were dashed when Wendy Martin stretched the lead to three goals again.

Northeast’s side were able to see out the game and restrict the Russians to long shots that failed to trouble the Team GB goal.

Team GB’s reward is a semi-final tie against Brazil, while Russia will take on Spain. Both ties will be played tomorrow
